I had a request a couple of weeks ago for an article on Graves’ Disease from Diana in Scotland. It is a rare condition that mainly affects the thyoid, causing it to be overactive and to swell to twice its size.

It seemed a relatively rare condition to write about and then it occurred to me that 99% of the population are suffering from some sort of thyroid problem and the causes and solutions are therefore all very similar.

The two other problems I want to address in this email are ‘Thyroid Recovery’ and ‘Hashimoto’s’ (another auto immune disease) that for all intents and purposes is the same as Graves, except the thyroid is underactive and does not lead to swelling.

Both Graves and Hashimoto’s are, as I point out above, autoimmune diseases, in the same way that most chronic diseases are (such as MS, Lupus etc). These are dealt with in my successful autoimmune plan, just with slight variations.

Thyroid weakness (slightly over and slightly underactive thyroid) is the most common of the thyroid problems and is suffered by around 90% of the population in western countries.

As well as a starchy carb/sugary diet, the most common cause of this epidemic is a deficiency of real iodine. Doctors identified this over 100 years ago. Doctors today use folklore to give advice on the thyroid.

To get the correct amount of iodine per day you would have to consume 3 small cups of kelp or kombu seaweed and take a selenium supplement to activate it. Very few people do this.

The well known symptoms of thyroid imbalance/iodine deficiency are:

  • Thyroid (overactive/underactive)
  • Energy imbalances
  • Weight gain and weight loss problems
  • Mental imbalances such as depression and anxiety
  • Mental retardation (children of mothers who have had an iodine deficiency)
  • Autism
  • Cysts
  • Breast Disease Problems
  • PMS and Menopausal Problems
  • Fibroids and PCO’s
  • Infertility
  • Prostate Disease
  • Weak Immune system

Recently, the EU also authorised on its ‘Register on Nutrition & Health Claims’ that Iodine contributes to normal cognitive function, normal energy yielding metabolism, normal functioning of the nervous system, to the normal production of thyroid hormones and thyroid function.

So it’s not just me telling you how important iodine is – the EU has confirmed this too!

Iodine is an integral and essential part of healthy DNA integrity, developmentally and throughout life.

Fact.

The two critical supplements to get the iodine you need, are: Nascent Iodine Drops – 4 drops x 4 times per day for a healthy system and up to 10 drops x 4 times per day with existing serious problems.

Please note this is real iodine in its atomic state, which is as close to food state iodine as possible.

Warning: Potassium Iodine is not natural and can be toxic in high doses. Stick to Nascent Iodine.

To activate Iodine another trace mineral, Selenium, (missing from the modern diet), is needed. I recommend taking 200 – 300mcg per day in total. This you will find in your daily multi-vitamin/mineral such as Active Life or MaxiFocus, both 9x better than taking a tablet.
