Poor lifestyle choices can cause half of all cancers according to a major new research project. Researchers from the American Cancer Society say that over 42 per cent of the 659, 640 new cancer cases reported in the US were the direct result of lifestyle.

Smoking is considered the biggest cause of cancer, while being obese, drinking too much alcohol, a poor diet and physical inactivity can all combine to play a contributing factor.

The real figures are even harder to define as lifestyle choices are difficult to track exactly. Other risk factors are involved too that have yet to be recognised but may play an important role in increasing the risk of cancer.

Sugar and starchy carbs are implicated in most cancers.

Obesity is the highest risk factor, being responsible for nearly 8 per cent of all cases.

Excessive drinking was also seen as a cause in nearly 6 per cent of cancers.

After the researchers assessed the impact of lifestyle choices on the 26 different types of cancer, they discovered cigarette smoking alone is directly responsible for 19 per cent of all cancer cases. This is nearly 29 per cent of all cancer deaths.

What is the Best Diet For Reversing Cancer?

Studies show that the Ketogenic Diet is best for reversing cancer and promoting good cellular health. The Ketogenic diet has been shown to weaken cancer cells by placing the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis. This is a process in which the body burns ketones to make energy, instead of relying on sugar or carbohydrates.

Ketones are metabolised by fatty acids in the liver and used for energy. In this source of fuel, it becomes possible to cross the blood brain barrier

Keotgenic diets work by lowering carbohydrates and reducing the level of glucose in the body that can feed cancer cells. When this happens, the body goes into ketosis and assists in the process of depleting cancer cells of their energy supply.

Cancer cells are different because they contain insulin receptors. On their cellular surface they contain ten times more insulin receptors, meaning they are able to gorge themselves in glucose and nutrients at a high rate in the bloodstream. Cancer cells are fed by sugar – and for this reason all sugary foods should be eliminated from the diet.

What Does The Ketogenic Diet Look Like?

The Ketogenic Diet is high in healthy fats including Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Grass-Fed Butter, and some nuts and seeds. Non-strarchy vegetables such as kale, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, courgette and cucumber are recommended as are avocados.

Protein rich foods such as grass-fed meat, pasture-raised poultry, cage-free eggs, bone broth and wild-caught fish are all good choices, as are organ meats and some full fat (raw) dairy products.

Including more of these foods into your diet can be tricky if you don’t know where to begin, that’s why we created plenty of Ketogenic recipe ideas to get you going with the plan. You don’t have to miss out with these simple and tasty recipes.
