WEEK 28 (2025) – Are You Protecting Your Energy This Summer?

With summer in full swing and the school holidays just around the corner, I’ve been thinking about how this time of year affects our daily rhythms. Longer days, more social plans and warmer nights are all wonderful in their own way, but they can also be a drain on our internal batteries if we’re not careful.

Before we dive into this week’s theme of protecting your energy, I wanted to circle back to our newsletter from a couple of weeks ago: What’s Really In Your Water? The fluoride article sparked a lot of feedback, and it was clear many of you are already being thoughtful about your exposure.

One reader, Lynne, told me: “I’ve been trying to avoid fluoride for years. Now I just lie to the dentist and hygienist when they advise me to use a fluoride toothpaste!”
Yvonne wrote: “A good read with information that most people don’t even consider. I’m concerned about fluoride and buy natural toothpaste and bottled mineral water.”

Several of you also asked about water filtration, and it’s true that standard jug filters often don’t remove fluoride effectively. If you’re concerned, a reverse osmosis system is the most reliable option for reducing fluoride and other contaminants. But simple steps like switching to fluoride-free toothpaste and avoiding fluoride-based mouthwash can also reduce your exposure.

Are You Running on Empty?

As we reach the halfway point in the year, it’s a good time to pause and check in with how you’re feeling. Summer brings joy and spontaneity, but it can also wear us down, especially if we’re juggling busy schedules, travel, childcare, or disrupted sleep.

If you’ve been feeling more drained than energised lately, you’re not alone. I’m hearing from many people who say they’re running on low power despite the sunny weather. And it’s no surprise. Longer daylight hours often mean later nights, more caffeine and alcohol consumption, increased socialising, and less downtime, all of which can chip away at our core energy.

That’s why I like to do a gentle mid-year reset at this time, nothing drastic, but a conscious return to the things that restore me: good sleep, nourishing food, simple routines, and a few daily habits that keep me balanced.

Simple Ways to Recharge and Reset

The key to supporting your energy levels is to start with the basics, such as prioritising consistent, nourishing meals with good-quality protein and healthy fats to keep your blood sugar stable. Skipping meals or relying on caffeine and sugar can push your adrenals further out of balance.

Build in moments of calm where you can. Even five minutes of deep breathing, gentle stretching, or taking a step outside can help lower cortisol and reset your nervous system. Aim for good sleep habits, too, ideally getting to bed before 11pm, when your body does most of its overnight repair.

Supplements like magnesium, B vitamins, and adaptogenic herbs (such as ashwagandha or rhodiola) can offer gentle support during busy or stressful periods. You don’t need to overhaul everything. Just look for small ways to slow down and nourish yourself more regularly.

This mid-year point is a great time to check in with how you’re really feeling and to make a few intentional choices that help you move into the second half of the year with more ease and energy.

Final Thoughts

So, whether you’re feeling energised by summer or quietly running on fumes, take a moment this week to think about what’s draining you and what fills you up again.

Energy isn’t just about willpower; it’s a resource that needs to be protected and replenished. And if you have your own strategies for staying energised in the summer months, I’d love to hear them. Just hit reply and let me know!
