WEEK 08 (2023) – For Your Eyes Only…

Are you looking to improve your eye health? Losing your eyesight can be a devastating, shocking experience, and it can be challenging to know what may help to improve the condition. Many people may only be aware that they are developing an eye condition once symptoms appear.

This has never been more evident than from the results of a recent online survey in January 2023 by the American Society of Retina Specialists, highlighting how 78 per cent of respondents ‘did not know straight lines appearing wavy or distorted was a symptom of AMD and only half (51 per cent) were aware that a gradual or sudden loss of central vision or a dark, blurry area in the centre of vision is an AMD symptom.’

AMD is a leading cause of vision loss and blindness worldwide, so it’s important to know what it is and the measures you can take to protect your eye health. It is the most common cause of poor sight amongst those over 60, but it can also occur in younger people, known as early onset macular degeneration.

What Is AMD?

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that blurs central vision. It happens when a small central portion of the retina, known as the macula, starts deteriorating. The retina is the light-sensing nerve tissue at the back of the eye. As the disease develops as a person ages, it’s known as AMD. However, it never leads to 100% sight loss.

There are two main types of AMD:

Dry AMD – This is the most common type and occurs when the macula cells become malnourished and start to waste away, meaning these can no longer function properly.

Wet AMD – This is less common and occurs when tiny blood vessels grow between the retina and the back of the eye when blood flow fails – again, from some malnourishment or cardiovascular disease. When these blood vessels leak and bleed as they grow, they cause scarring of the macula.

Research shows that nutrition and lifestyle play a significant factor in keeping our eyes healthy and preventing the onset of eye diseases. Studies show that two critical nutrients, in particular, can support eye health. These include:

Lutein and Zeaxanthin

These two carotenoids have powerful antioxidant properties that may help to reduce inflammation in the retina, helping to reduce the risk of AMD by up to 20%. [1] You can find Lutein and Zeaxanthin in foods such as eggs, leafy greens such as spinach or kale, oranges, corn, squash, broccoli and certain types of fish such as salmon and tuna.

However, for best eye health, we suggest taking MaxiFocus® from Good Health Naturally (see below), as it provides 26 super nutrients and antioxidants – including carotenoids Lutein and Zeaxanthin, two essential nutrients known to be missing in the eyes of sufferers.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to maintaining eye health and reducing inflammation throughout your body. They are linked to improving blood flow to the eyes, promoting clear vision, even into old age. Omega-3s are also linked to improved mental clarity, which is an excellent way to keep your mind healthy. [2]

Try incorporating salmon or other types of fish, walnuts, flax seeds and chia into your diet for a delicious powerhouse meal jam-packed with nutrients that help keep those peepers healthy even during our golden years. For a supplement, we suggest The Krill Miracle™ (see below) as it provides high-strength DHA/EPA from Superba Boost™ Krill Oil, providing ultra-pure Omega-3s and phospholipids to support the body’s anti-inflammatory processes.

Astaxanthin

Additionally, Astaxanthin is another nutrient we should include in our diets regularly to support healthy eyesight now and down the line.

Studies show that Astaxanthin can reduce oxidative stress, improve vision clarity and acuity, reduce eye strain and protect against age-related macular degeneration. To provide excellent eye protection, Astaxanthin works best with other carotenoids, such as Lutein and Zeaxanthin. [3]

Taking these nutrients as part of a dedicated healthy lifestyle plan makes it possible to improve your eye health for the long term.

Let Your Story Help To Inspire Others

Here are some of our favourite testimonials from people who have improved their eye health by following our Eye Health Plan as found in the ‘Helping Eye Disease’ book and taking the recommended nutrients, including MaxiFocus®…

“I was diagnosed with Dry ARMD in 2005 and was told by Specsavers opticians that there was nothing they could do and that I would lose my tunnel vision. I called into a local health shop when visiting a relative in North Wales, and he recommended NewFocus. After nine months, I saw a marked improvement in my condition. I now regularly take MaxiFocus and have even recommended it on the radio. Over the years, it has helped me to fulfil my duties as a County Counsellor and become Chairman of the Mid Wales Fire and Rescue Service. At aged 82, I can now lead a normal life thanks to MaxiFocus.”
– Roy L, Wales

“The MaxiFocus® does work. I know by experience. I have missed not being able to get it for about two months or more. I felt the difference. I’m now back to reading without glasses.”
– A.S. Tinto

“My AMD has stabilised by following your Age-Related Macular Degeneration health plan. It also helps to keep my Rheumatoid Arthritis (R.A.) under control as well.”
– Jacqueline

“I’ve been following the Macular Degeneration Health Plan, and I’ve gone from being monitored monthly by the hospital to being discharged because my condition has been static now for over two years.”
