As an antioxidant that your body naturally produces, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) plays a powerful role in the growth and maintenance of cells. The highest levels are found in the liver, kidneys and heart. However, their levels decrease over time with age.

Getting enough coenzyme Q10 is essential, which is why lower levels of CoQ10 are associated with poor health conditions such as heart disease.

Numerous clinical studies support its effectiveness for heart and energy production, assisting in diabetes, mental and brain health, and reducing inflammation and even oxidative stress.

Let’s review them by each primary area…

Heart Health

Ubiquinol is potentially effective as a supplemental treatment for advanced heart failure patients, according to one clinical journal published in the Biofactors journal. [1] While one study published in The Nursing and Health Sciences Journal found that it may improve patient outcomes and provide promising results for improving left ventricular diastolic function. [2]

A total of 14 studies of 1067 participants taking a CoQ10 supplement were examined, predominantly amongst older adult males with heart failure and ischemic heart disease, along with preoperative patients scheduled for cardiac surgery.

The patients who took CoQ10 supplements were found to have improved heart functional capacity, increased serum CoQ10 concentrations and fewer major adverse cardiovascular events. In predominantly older adult males with CVD or hypertension, taking a CoQ10 supplement was safe and offered clinical benefits at the cellular level.

Coenzyme Q10 has also been found to have positive, quantifiable effects on inflammatory markers in patients with heart disease.

According to a study from The Journal of Nutrition, other studies have found that taking CoQ10 may help reduce blood pressure along with statin-associated muscle symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, muscle cramps and muscle tiredness. [3]

Energy Production

If you struggle with fatigue, getting enough CoQ10 may help to support the production of ATP, improving energy production. For athletes, it is beneficial as a double-blind placebo-controlled study has found that it can enhance their peak power production, helping to improve their physical performance.

In the study published in The Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 100 young, well-trained athletes received either 300mg of Ubiquinol or a placebo for six weeks. The Ubiquinol group were found to have significantly increased their physical performance levels, measured as maximum power output by +0.08 Wkg by (+2.5%) versus the placebo group of the same healthy trained Olympic athletes. [4]

Various CoQ10 studies have found that taking a daily dose of Coq10 may help reduce fatigue. Their studies found that taking a CoQ10 supplement for at least six months was associated with reduced fatigue. [5]

Fertility Support

Taking Ubiquinol can help to support fertility – in both sperm and egg quality. One study published in Nephro-Urology Monthly reported that taking Ubiquinol significantly impacted the size and shape of sperm, along with its motility – or the ability for sperm to move efficiently.

Ubiquinol plays a decisive role in protecting sperm cells from oxidative damage while improving sperm count, and it may also play a role in sperm energy production. [6]

How Bioavailable is Ubiquinol?

In a study on the safety and bioavailability of Ubiquinol, the reduced form of Coenzyme Q10 was evaluated in single-blind, placebo-controlled studies with healthy subjects, administering a single oral dose of 150 or 300mg and after oral administration – 90, 150, or 300mg for four weeks.

The results showed significant absorption of Ubiquinol from the gastrointestinal tract. No safety concerns were noted on doses of up to 300mg up to 2 weeks after treatment completion. [7]

Another randomised, double-blind trial on the bioavailability of two CoQ10 formulations compared a single dose of reduced Coenzyme Q10, and a Coenzyme Q10 formulation, in individuals over the age of 60. The trial found that taking the reduced CoQH-CF was superior to the commercial formulation of Coenzyme Q10 for bioavailability. [8]

Why Kaneka Ubiquinol?

As the active form of CoQ10, Ubiquinol is a fat-soluble antioxidant that can support your body’s natural energy production in every cell and organ of the body. It’s especially beneficial for the optimal function of the heart and lungs. It’s also recommended for immune health and for supporting your general energy levels.

We recommend Kaneka Ubiquinol as this is supported by science and developed over a decade of research experience. Produced through the natural fermentation of yeast, Kaneka Ubiquinol is the only Ubiquinol available as a stable nutritional ingredient that is the same one found within the body.

For supporting your immune system, protecting your heart health, and boosting your general energy levels, Ubiquinol is an essential supplement to take for optimal health.
