A high level of saturated fat within the body can contribute to an enhanced inflammatory response that could be the key link into the onset and development of diseases such as Type 2 diabetes.

Obesity from following an unhealthy diet can increase the risk of atherosclerosis. While researchers agree it can also contribute to Diabetes Type 2 and Alzheimer’s Disease…but not in everyone, according to C Lawrence Kien, an author from the University of Vermont (UVM).

This is because inflammation causes chemicals known as cytokines to be released from the cells and these can form a normal part of the immune system’s defence against infection.

In the study by Kien and his colleagues, one of the most prevalent forms of saturated fat in the diet known as palmitic acid was analysed and it was found that a high palmitic acid diet can increase the concentration of several inflammatory biomarkers in both their blood and muscle.

A separate study by the team reported that this same diet was associated with a reversible decrease in physical activity and an increase in anger, thereby suggesting a diet that’s high in saturated fats can interfere with normal cognitive processes.

The higher the amount of palmitic acid in the diet, the more cytokines were produced and this produced more inflammation along with an elevated associated risk of metabolic disease.

Although Kien reported that it’s also important to acknowledge various other factors like diet and physical activity can all play a part in the role of saturated fat and its impact on health.

What is the best diet for health?

The study in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that by following a Mediterranean diet with a low level of saturated fat it’s possible to decrease the body’s overall inflammatory responses in comparison to a high saturated fat diet or even a low-fat diet, the team reported.

The study highlights what many researchers believe about following a healthy diet devoid of overly fatty foods. An unhealthy diet that’s high in saturated fat and processed foods is inevitably going to contribute towards systemic diseases that can result in premature death.

A healthy diet is filled with plant-based foods including plenty of green leafy vegetables, dark skinned fruits, nuts, seeds and legumes. Avoiding junk foods, high levels of saturated fat and starchy carbohydrates is suggested for best health.

Serrapeptase can help to remove inflammation in the body. It is a proteolytic enzyme that dissolves and digests inflammation (non-living tissue), blood clots, arterial plaque and cysts, safely eliminating it from the body. It can provide pain and inflammation relief, while helping to clear the arteries.

SerraEnzyme 80,000IU is recommended for best results. It is available in tablet or capsule form and is the world’s strongest serrapeptase. Its natural healing and anti-inflammatory properties means that it’s able to safely remove toxins and wastes from the body. By removing the inflammation it’s then possible to improve your health in the long term.
